“Wanting people to listen, you can’t just tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a [frankfurter], and then you’ll notice you’ve got their strict attention.” (paraphrase) – John Doe, “Se7en” (1995, Dir David Fincher).
Who would have thought the Buildaburger Conference could blossom into such an indictment of Western colonialism, political inadequacy and capitalist exploitation?
Anyway, it’s British Sausage Week 2013 and I will be posting sausage-related political satire each day until Sunday 10th November.
Although I am sure http://www.lovepork.co.uk/ did not design this particular marketing drive as an anti-war campaign, I have thought up a rather clever conceit to bend it to my own purposes. Seeing as the seven days of British Sausage Week 2013 ends on the day before Armistice Day, I have decided to use the humble sausage as a satirical foil in a prelude to remembrance of the 15 million dead from the “the war to end all wars” (not).
As a little extra sauce on the plate, here is a new brand I have created for the purpose. The logo is a first draft and contains a frankfurter for the US, a pink pork mystery sausage for the British and some small wurst / chipolatas to represent other colonial wasters of life and limb. I will no doubt revise this at some point.
Today is the first day of British Sausage Week 2013 and my first satirical skinful of minced bile will be online later today.
Enjoy your meal.
